Last Sunday's story about local "burger wars" drew a lot of feedback, especially from readers whose favorite burger joints were left unmentioned.
They included Houston's - a great cheeseburger, but not really a burger joint; Shake Shack - still mainly located in New York City; Johnny Rockets - seven sites in metro Phoenix ; and 5 & Diner - a longtime competitor with five restaurants in the Valley.
The burger spot whose oversight drew the most comments from jilted fans, though, was Indulge Burgers & More at the southwestern corner of Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard in Scottsdale. Customers raved about the burgers, service, ambiance and owner Lee Klein.
Klein operated the 5 & Diner at Scottsdale Pavilions for 15 years before taking the burger, fries and shakes concept up a notch.
Indulge Burgers & More opened in November 2008 and serves Angus natural beef that is certified to be "humanely raised and handled." The patties are hand-formed, and the meat is never frozen.
The standard burger with cheese is $9.50. Add Kobe beef for $4.25 more. The signature Vesuvius Volcanic burger for $12.50 infuses melted cheese into the beef and is one of the most popular.
Sides include French fries, sweet-potato fries and onion straws and the more unusual fried pickle chips. Shakes come in regular or spiked with alcohol.
